ICWSL: COVID-19 and our Return to Play Plan
What is ICWSL?
The International Co-Wreck Soccer League is a co-ed, over thirty, non-competitive, just-for-fun league that is non-profit and run by volunteers. We provide women and men of all soccer skill levels, from beginning to advanced, with an opportunity to play recreational soccer in a safe, friendly environment. The league plays matches year-round on Friday evenings in the Redmond, WA, area. On Sundays, you may also join us for a friendly, just-for-fun scrimmage.
ICWSL is an affiliate of the Washington State Adult Soccer Association (WSASA). Players wishing to participate in the ICWSL games, scrimmages, and walking soccer must obtain a current WSASA players card and present their card at each match.
Each player must read, understand, and agree to abide by the league rules and the code of conduct before participating in league-sponsored play.
What is our response to COVID-19?
In mid-March, 2020, with the novel coronavirus on the rise, we suspended all league-sponsored Friday-night games and Sunday scrimmages. We've been monitoring the COVID-19 status even since, planning to resume league play when safe and appropriate.
ICWSL is following the governor's Healthy Washington – Roadmap to Recovery plan. ICWSL plays games in the Puget Sound region, and as of Feb. 1, 2021, Puget Sound is now in Phase 2. In phase 2 and better, we are allowed to return to playing soccer.
We have filed our ICWSL Return to Play Plan listing the guidelines that our league requires all players to follow in order to participate in any league-sponsored scrimmages and games.
Because it's been almost a year since we have been able to play, the league is planning to return to play in two phases.
- Phase 1: Drop-in scrimmages, Fridays and Sundays, free of charge.
- Phase 2: Return to regularly-scheduled team play on Fridays, and pay-as-you-play scrimmages on Sundays.
Friday night games
February thru May, we are offering drop-in scrimmages on Friday nights. Starting Feb. 12, 2021, ICWSL has reserved fields at Marymoor Park. Come on out and join us, for a fun, safe, and casual way to get our game legs back.
If all goes well, and if the Puget Sound region remains in phase 2 or better, we will resume our regular team-play games, starting with the Summer 2021 season. The Friday night Summer session is tentatively scheduled to begin in June, 2021.
You will need a current WSASA players card to participate in both the scrimmages and the team play.
Sunday scrimmages
The Sunday scrimmages will resume starting February 14, 2021. For the Sunday scrimmages offered in February and March, 2021, we have temproarily suspended the fee to play. The pay-as-you-play fee of $10 per game will resume in April, 2021.
A current WSASA players card is required to participate in the scrimmages.
